Your children need your presence more than your presents!

Spending quality time with our children is the most important thing we can do as parents. It not only helps us to understand them but also helps children to become "wonderful people" in later life. Even simple activities like cuddling and rocking your baby support them to feel calm, safe, and protected. Secure attachment with children reinforces their brain to have a balanced and healthy growth physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.
"Spending time with children is more important than spending money on children".
- Anthony Douglas Williams
"Spend time with your kids and show them how much you admire and care about them. Let them know how proud you are of them and watch how they light up inside and out".
- George Bronner
Children learn and develop best when they have strong, loving, positive relationships with parents and other carers. Positive relationships between you and your child are built on quality time. Time together is how you get to know about each other's experiences, thoughts, feelings and changing interests. This shows that you value and appreciate your child, which is great for your relationship. On the other hand, children learn about their world whether it is safe and secure, whether they are loved, who loves them, what happens when they cry, laugh or make a face and much more...
How does the brain learn after birth?
Though a greater deal of the brain's architecture is developed in the womb, the growth of neural connections begins to flourish after a child is born. When a child is exposed to environmental stimuli, the brain starts to react accordingly. All the information pass from one neuron to another resulting development of long-term, hardwired neural circuitry, which for neuroscientists, is the essence of learning. Significant neural activity, growth, and development occur in the early stages of life. So, as parents, it is important to spend quality time with your child to promote strong neural development. These stimulating experiences activate certain connections, repetition strengthens these connections and the brain learns.
For Busy Parents
"Your children get only one childhood. Make it memorable".
"You will never have this day with your children again. Tomorrow they will be a little bigger than they are today. This day is a gift. Breathe and notice. Smell and touch them; study their faces and little feet and pay attention. Relish the charms of the present. Enjoy today. It will be over before you know it".
- Jen Hatmaker
You may not have a lot of time to spend with your child every day. But, have you ever thought that quality time can happen anytime and anywhere in the middle of ordinary days and situations. It can be a shared laugh when you're bathing your toddler or a good conversation in the car with your teenage child. These moments give you the chance to communicate positive messages with smiles, laughter, eye contact, hugs and gentle touches. Therefore, let's plan some regular one-on-one uninterrupted time with our children that help us make the time count.
